About Computer Vision Laboratory
CVL is a vibrant research environment with four faculty members, five researchers, eighteen PhD students, and several adjunct researchers. CVL conducts research and education in machine learning for computer vision at the undergraduate, advanced, and PhD levels. CVL has been identified as outstanding Swedish research environment within AI in Vinnova’s report 2018 and LiU is Sweden's strongest university in AI according to Vinnova’s report 2024. We have ongoing research activities within WASP (Wallenberg AI, Autonomous Systems, and Software Program), ELLIIT (Excellence center) and LiU's profile area VDF (Visual digital futures). For further details, see https://liu.se/organisation/liu/isy/cvl.
CVL consists of the following research units:
- 3D Geometry
- 3D Motion
- Remote Sensing
- Visual Learning Theory
- Visual Perception
Researchers and academic staff at Swedish universities retain the rights to their own research results, even when these are patentable. This system is known as the “teachers’ exemption” (Lärarundantaget) and differs from the system at universities in other countries.
